Miro: Getting started for staff 

What is Miro? 

Miro is an online whiteboarding tool which offers a large, flexible space for many types of creative and educational activity. Students and staff can add text, images, shapes, pictures, links, videos, comments, and even documents. It is an excellent tool for collaboration, group work, diagramming, studio crits as well as brainstorming and ideation. You can also use Miro for project management, planning, and giving presentations alongside activities.

How do I get access to Miro?  

As a UAL member of staff, you’re entitled to a free Miro educational account. To create your staff account complete this online form, and select ‘educator’ as your role.

Make sure you use your UAL email address to register when completing the form. You’ll also be asked to provide a link to either an image of your staff ID, a UAL web page where your name and position are stated, or to another document confirming your employment status. 

What features does the educational account offer? 

The educational account offers many additional features beyond the free account available to everyone. Read more on Miro’s website for a full list of a features.

Please note: Although the educational account limits the number of ‘members’ (i.e. staff, students or a combination of staff/students) to 100, there are ways to accommodate more should you have a larger cohort. You can:  

Please note: Under certain circumstances there may be a need to apply for a temporary one-year Enterprise plan. These include: 

  • Working with minors (age under 18) 
  • Large scale events, e.g. conferences, with more than 100 participants
