This guidance should be complimented by your local college processes for creating the assessment section. Please ensure you discuss this with your local Digital Learning Teams.
In a received feedback, students have cited the need to find assessment information more easily in course pages. To support this, we have 2 key recommendations:
- For units with Holistic Assessment: Create a single sub-page from the unit’s landing page.
- For units with Multiple Assessments: Include a single assessment section on the unit/course landing page, with separate sections to highlight different assessment components.
On these pages, the information present should be clear and concise, with the bulk of the details in the appropriate assessment brief. By keeping the key details organised clearly within the brief, students can begin work knowing they have everything that they need all in one place.
By consistently using this format across the units, student will quickly become familiar with what’s expected at assessment time, reducing the need to re-learn where to find information or how to carry out an action, as they progress through their course.
To create a unit assessment section from the course main menu, a new section with the custom name ‘Assessment‘ should be added. A high-level overview of the assessment can be included in the summary field.
If unsure where to start, please refer to ‘Setting up Your Course‘ for more information on creating a section.
Adding Key Assessment Information
Why is this important?
Providing a clear and structured summary of assessment details helps students quickly understand what is expected of them. This is especially useful for:
- Students juggling multiple projects
- Students with diverse language backgrounds trying to identify key information
- Students who would need a quick refresher on assessment requirements without searching through lenghthy documents.
By presenting essential information in a concise and accessible way, student engagement and clarity on key objectives of the assessment can be enhanced.
Information can be extract as key snippets from the assessment brief (PDF) and display them in an H5P accordion on Moodle, and provides students with a quick snapshot of their assessment before opening the full brief.
If you would like to replicate or generate the accordion layout used in this example, click the following button to view the step-by-step guide. Once you’ve followed the setup, you can return to this section and continue the guide.
The full assessment brief file (pdf) prepared by the teaching staff can now be added below the assessment information by adding a File for students to access.
Below assessment brief is used as an example downloadable file from unit “Creative Contexts (FU010070)” in BA (Hons) Creative Direction for Fashion (LCF).
